More Wave Pictures.

More pics of the Waves around Barbados March 2008. The top Picture is Paynes Bay while the other 2 were taken just north at Sandy Lane Beach. unless we have been having storms in the area, these 2 stretchs of sea along these beachs are normally basically flat water.

Waves from Sea Swell Hit Barbados

Just thought you would like to see some of the Surf that happened around Barbados on Easter Weekend 2008. While it might not look like much to many people, trust me, around here, it's a pretty big story. The top picture is at the Soup Bowl in Bathsheba on the east coast. Known world wide as a great surfing spot, you couldn't/wouldn't surf there on Thursday March 20th, and possibly not for a few days after.. just too much rough water. The second picture was taken at Mullins Beach on the west coast about 1/2 hour later (both taken after 3pm. I was told the waves were much bigger earlier in the morning) most days of the year Mullins is flat flat falt.. but not this day. These waves even managed to cause damage to the newly rebuild Beach Bar at Mullins.

Theme Cruises - Food and Wine

I am a foodie.. Ok.. I've said it.. I like food, I like to cook, I like to watch Food Network, and I like to read Cookbooks (Old and new), just like someone else likes to read a novel (I like Novels as well, but ..)

So why not combine 2 of the things that I love to do (one of which I don't get to do that often, but well I still love it). Cruises and Cooking.. Cruises and Food.. Cruises and Wine.. etc.. etc..

Theme Cruises are becoming big business these days, and Culinary Cruises are making waves everywhere. Top Chefs are taking to the highseas. Have a look at what some of the cruise lines are offering for Food/Wine Cruises and let me know if you are interested in booking one or more of these great sailings.

AmeriBag - The Healthy Back Bag (infomercial)

This is my infomercial for a really great purse/handbag/ whatever you want to call it.

I purchased this bag 1 1/2 years ago. It's a Healthy Bag Microfiber Widebody bag. I swear by what the company claims. It's heavy in my hand, and I sometimes wonder what exactly do I put into this bag. Then I slide it onto my shoulder and I can barely feel it hanging there.

The next best thing that has happned, is that after a year and a 1/2, I noticed little things about the bag that made it look not so nice. and the strap wasn't sitting properly on my shoulder. I took it bag to where I purchased the bag, and ended up getting a brand new bag. Read the Warrenty information. they stand behind what they say.

Soooo... I know.. the bag above isn't the most fashion forward bag you have ever seen. It is great for every day, but kind of didn't work with any of my going out clothing. So about 6 mths ago I purchased the Kyoto Bag from Ameribag. It's great for going out. Holds just what I need.

Now really.. I know.. the price is a bit high.. for those of us who are used to buying our purses at one of those box stores (and you know what box stores I'm talking about), But these bags are worth every penny. Enjoy.

Barbados World Cup of Golf

So if you don't have anything planned for the beginning of December, why not come to Barbados and enjoy to the World Golf Championship - Barbados World Cup taking place at Sandy Lane Golf Course December 5th - 10th 2006.

North Carolina is my home

Well I've just returned from 6 weeks in Sanford, NC where my mother (and family) has lived for as long and longer than I can remember. We had a great vacation doing basically nothing.. Hanging around the swimming pool and shopping, among other things.

This trip we didn't manage to go the Mountains or to the coast, but decided to remain at home in the center of the state.

If you ever have a chance to go to the US, I highly recommend a stay in North Caroina. Take a look at the NC Tourism Website, and get going.. http://www.visitnc.com/ Where the Mountains meet the Sea. It's a great place to be.

Harrison's Cave Barbados, closing for renovations

These pictures where taken by me on visits to Harrisons Cave.

The formation on the left is called The Column and the one of the right is known as The Alter

Unfortunately Harrisons cave will be closing on July 7, 2006 for an 18mth renovation project. However, if you are lucky enough to be in Barbados for the Cricket World Cup in April 2007, the Caves are scheduled to be reopened for the month of April 2007 and will close again for the completion of the renovations. I hope all goes as planned.

Summer Travel

It's summer time. Most kids are out of school (mine still have about a week and 1/2 left). And it's the time when many families travel. Having been in the travel industry for many years, I find that people still have a hard time getting out that door for their summer holiday travel. So I thought I'd add a few tips to hopefully help people travel better in the summer time.

1. Make sure passports and travel documents are in order. If you are going to a different country, you need to make sure you have all the proper visas, insurance and other items needed for tavel. Check the countries webpages to see if there is anything that you need that your travel agent isn't telling you. While they don't have to "get your visas for you", a Travel Agent is required to give you info on visas/Passport and Health requirements for all countries that you are visiting.

2. Pack light (better said than done). check out the weather (well in most places summer travel is going to be warm to hot, unless you are visiting South of the equator). Take outfits that work in several different ways. Keep colors similar so you can mix and match. For kids, take at least one outfit per day..again try to mix and match things and don't overload on shoes.. Remember.. most places you can pickup a thing or 2 for you or the kids to supplement what you have.

3. Kids medications.. even over the counter.. Have some basics ready and with you.. in your carry on.. sniffle stuff. pain stuff.. etc... Also, make sure you have any prescription meds that you need in your carry on.. not in your checked luggage if you are flying.. and carry a separate list of those meds as well.

4. toys for the plane/car etc.. take toys/books/crayons etc that they will play with and that will not go rolling under the seats (lost some toy cars that way on a plane once.)

This is just a short list of what I find important. I'm sure I'll find more things to add later

Click on the link on the title to see a great website with tons more info.

Highland Adventure Centre - Barbados

Went to Highland Adventure Centre (in the northern part of St. Thomas Parish) yesterday (June 17th 06) as a part of my children's school (St. Gabriel's School) family fun day activities. It was really great. I haven't been there in a number of years and had a very enjoyable time. They have hiking and biking and horseback riding as well as a snack bar and facilities.

As part of the fun day the shool had a jumpy tent placed on the grounds and had the children bring their footballs and cricket bats as well. At around 4:15pm the Highland Staff seperated those that wanted to participate into 2 groups and led everyone on 2 different hikes. The first was labled as a 20min hike for the younger kids and the 2nd as a 1 hour and 45 min hike for those heartier souls.

I choose to go on the 20min hike with my 2 daughters and 2 of their friends (who I was looking after for the afternoon). We walked along a narrow path through open fields (used by cattle and horses mostly.. how did we know this.. well all you had to do was look down) . We mostly walked single file for the first little while, then the path widened a bit in spots and those that wanted to go ahead could do so. It was a gently sloping hike through that gave us some really great views of Barbados. In the end the time was 40min in total. Some walked faster than others, but a good hike was had by all.

My husbands brother took his family (older children) on the harder hike and they all had a great time. they hiked up to Mount Hilliby, which is the highest point in Barbados, and back to the centre. With the exception of a few scraps and bumps, they all had a great time. Even the Headmistress of the school (who is an avid hiker) went along on this one and really enjoyed herself.

What a great day. the views are spectacular and if you are there in the evening, take a light sweater at the breezes do blow on the cool side.

I highly recommend this spot on your next visit to Barbados.
